I have been fascinated for many years with the varied underlying meanings that everyday objects can convey. In the past, I tried to translate my ideas through pastel drawings (see below). My focus, at that time, was on paperclips, wire clothes hangers, and keys. More recently, with a camera, I have been documenting similar common objects with a focus on shape, color, texture and metaphorical meaning. These final images are more abstract. Objects as mundane as rusty hardware, the side of a metal trash barrel, and other relics past their prime are featured. In addition, I enjoy photographing abstractions created by the reflective patterns on water and windows, peeling paint, and other surfaces.
Harbor Views is both a documentation of a New England fishing port and an essay/meditation on the distressing environmental crisis our oceans, harbors and waterways have reached.
The photographic investigations continue. View more at flickr.com/photos/minkstudios or my new photoblog at tumblr.
FYI: My photographs are minimally altered digitally. They are only enhanced with some color adjustment, straightening, and cropping.
